The Girl Scout Entrepreneur

The Entrepreneur

Five years back my daughter was “operating a business” selling Girl Scout cookies for her troop. Most of you are saying to yourselves that selling Girl Scout Cookies does not make you an entrepreneur but I have to disagree. I looked up entrepreneur on www.define.com and the definition to entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.

As a person with a small business myself I have stepped back to analyze how she was approaching her “business”.

Here is what I have observed:

Each day she made a plan to go out at a certain time to communicate with potential customers who may buy her product. She collected their names, addresses and cookie orders on an ordering sheet. When the time came she handed in the order sheet to be processed. When the cookies come in she then had to find a way to distribute them (usually with mom and dad’s help). She then collected the money owed, turned the money in and then enjoyed the prize she had won according to how many cookies she sold.

So dod she organize and manage a business? YES

Did she use considerable initiative? YES

Was there risk? YES

SHE OPERATED A BISUNESS!!!

She approached her business with goal setting, planning, using proven systems, time and money management. She even has to develop a distribution plan!!!!! Wow….. You could even go as far to say she has employees (her mother and I). Did she pay us? No, but she sure leveraged our time to maximize her success…….

If you are ready to start your own business lets connect…….
